Fiction in 50 is a regular feature in the last week of every
month and I invite any interested composers of mini-narrative to join
in!
What is #Fi50? In the words of founder Bruce Gargoyle, "Fiction in 50: think of it as the anti-NaNoWriMo experience!" Pack a beginning, middle and end of story into 50 words or less (bonus points for hitting exactly 50 words).
The rules for participation are simple:
1. Create a piece of fictional writing in 50 words or less, ideally using the prompt as title or theme or inspiration. Bonus points for hitting 50 exactly.That’s it! But for those who wish to challenge themselves further, here’s an additional rule:
2. Post your piece of flash fiction on your blog or (for those poor blog-less souls) add it as a comment on the Ninja Librarian’s post for everyone to enjoy.
And for those thrill-seekers who really like to go the extra mile (ie: perfectionists):
3. Add the nifty little picture above to your post (credit for which goes entirely to ideflex over at acrossthebored.com) or create your own Fi50 meme pic…
and 4. Link back here so others can jump on the mini-fic bandwagon.
This month's prompt is "The End is in the Beginning." As usual, I have used it as my title, and gone on from there. Only, this time, I lost a word when I was thinking about it, so my story and title are just a little different:
The End is the Beginning
I heard the kids wishing I could make it another year. “It’s something, to live to 100!”It’s something to live to 99, too, but I’m ready to fold my hands in eternal rest.
What?
I want my rest. That hurts.
Curse it, no! I don’t want to be reincarnated!

ReplyDeleteThanks! As I often do, I kind of worked it out in my head while I was exercising, which is why I lost a word out of the title, which took me a different direction!
DeleteOoh-er. As Patricia said, great take on it. But as one who has two relatives who lived to 100 then said, fine that's enough now, I reckon 100 is better than 99.
ReplyDeleteIt all depends on how you are feeling. I've long joked I want to live a healthy and vigorous life until I'm 99, then walk off a mountain about 3 minutes before I'd have to give up hiking.
