The author talks about that, actually--how it feels like a completely different country, if not world, when he gets out into the desert.<br /><br />My son will be traveling with an organized group, so in fact his reading on the history and geography of the country is probably the most useful, though I may well get him the Lonely Planet book and have him read up on the places they will go, once we have the itinerary.Rebecca M. I have been to Algeria and Egypt, and I suspect the manner and socio-political issues in which people have to live are similar in type, even if they differ in the flavour of the political power.
