But you can't do the PCT starting in Canada, because you usually can't get through the North Cascades until July, often late July. Then you wouldn't be able to get through the Sierra, as it would be late September or October when you got there, and apt to be snowed in there, too. Not to mention those 10,000' mountains east of LA, which would be near the end (the same ones that mess up hikers near the beginning, between desert stretched).

And now I've written another dissertation on the topic :) Rebecca M. Bryson alternately cracked me up and annoyed me, as he we so woefully ignorant of what he was tackling, and sometimes comes off as a jerk (I've read and enjoyed most of what he's written, but he almost always at some point annoys me).Rebecca M. Now do I go for the 2001 paperback for £15 or the 1935 used hardback for £30? Hmmm.Jemima Petthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17110647375899927233noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-52364159500107393.post-28815197575386597912013-09-03T03:08:00.327-07:002013-09-03T03:08:00.327-07:00This is a great blog post! I admire anyone who makes any kind of expedition, although having met a couple of well-known explorers, I think you have to be a little mad, or maybe it's just one extreme of the normal human psyche.

I love your descriptions of the trails and their problems - how would it work if you started the PCT in Canada? - but I immediately had a reminder of an old, very old, book called Tschiffely's Ride, about a guy who rode from Tierra Del Fuego to the USA up the Andes. I loved that book (it was about the horses of course). I wonder if I can find it again. It was only in my library when I was a kid - I couldn't find a copy in a book shop even then.

Heck, maybe I should go and do a review post of your review instead of a comment lolJemima Petthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17110647375899927233noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-52364159500107393.post-42678767264383665022013-09-02T16:53:48.247-07:002013-09-02T16:53:48.247-07:00"Wild" certainly put that trail in the s..."Wild" certainly put that trail in the spotlight as much as Bill Bryson's book about hiking the Appalachian Trail did. I love books like this-- thank you very much for the suggestions.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00741349796538313075noreply@blogger.com
